The overall inception of the idea to 3D print a toothbrush, was that I wanted to design and create something that was simple and practical that I could see myself or other people using.

I first had to do some research on the proper dimensions of a toothbrush, so I could get a a good idea of how big I would ultimately need to make the toothbrush holder. I found that about 6-6.5” worked pretty well. I then came up with a concept sketch for my design. I knew that I wanted it to be different than that of a bulky cylindrical shape with various holes cut in it. Next I went into Inventor and made the design. I scaled everything down to precise measurements. After I was finished making it in inventor, I exported it as an STL file to the makerbot program, and resized/scales it again to ensure it was proper dimensions. I noticed that I had a few overhanging pieces to it, so I made sure to add supports to it. Lastly I uploaded it to the printer and let the makerbot do the work until completion.
something I learned is that it is always important to make sure that everything is a stable thickness before you 3D print something, and to also ensure that everything is also scaled correctly and that it isn’t too big
